Climate and Clothing

During early May the daytime highs average around 18 °C–20 °C (64–68 °F), though occasional warmer days may reach 23–26 °C.
Nighttime drops to around 7 °C–9 °C (44–48 °F).

May is Prague’s wettest month, so bring rain protection, and pack layers – shirts for daytime, a light sweater or jacket for cooler evenings.

Currency & Exchange

The official currency is the Czech koruna (CZK), sometimes called the Czech crown.

Euro (€) is not widely accepted in Prague, though some tourist shops or hotels might take it — but usually at a poor exchange rate. It’s best to pay in CZK.

ATMs are widely available throughout Prague, including the airport, city centre, and tourist areas.

Most ATMs accept major international cards: Visa, MasterCard, Maestro, and American Express.

Currency exchange offices (směnárna) are common, but beware of poor rates and extra fees. Look for official exchanges with transparent rates.

Tip

  • Use ATM’s affiliated with reputable banks
  • Avoid exchanging money on the street
  • Inform your bank before travel to avoid card blocks

Airport to City Travel

Travel options from Václav Havel Airport Prague (PRG) to the city centre

Public Transport (Bus + Metro)
  • Take bus 59 (from Terminal 1/2) to Nádraží Veleslavín → transfer to Metro line A into the centre (e.g. Můstek, Muzeum).
  • Fare: CZK 40 (€1.30–1.60), valid 90 min across bus + metro
  • Travel time: ~35–40 minutes
  • Tip: You must validate ticket when boarding the bus. Tickets are sold in arrivals halls, machines, or via the Lítačka app

Pros: Cheapest, frequent service (every 5–10 min), covers whole city.
Cons: One transfer and carrying luggage on metro and buses.

  • Route: Direct bus from Terminal 1 to Prague Main Railway Station (Hlavní nádraží).
  • Fare: CZK 100 (€4) one-way
  • Travel time: ~40–45 minutes

Pros: Direct, no transfers, ample luggage space.
Cons: Slightly longer time, more expensive than public transport.

  • Estimated fare: ~CZK 385–500 (€13–20) for Bolt Economy
  • Travel time: ~25–30 minutes
  • Tip: Phone apps provide upfront pricing and pickup zones. Many travellers prefer Bolt for local usage. Late-night rides are available and can be pre-booked

Pros: Door-to-door convenience, ideal with luggage or late arrivals.
Cons: Higher cost compared to public transport; depends on traffic and demand.

  • Official airport taxi: CZK 700–800 (€25–32) standard rate, may increase to CZK 1 000 (€40) during traffic.
  • Pre booked private transfer: ~€31 / CZK 800–900, includes meet-and-greet and fixed price.

Pros: Hassle free, no waiting or metering surprises.
Cons: Most expensive option; airport taxi scams are common, so pre booking is safer.
