Prof. Cifkova Renata, MD, PhD, FESC

Renata Cifkova completed her medical education at Charles University, Prague and in 1986 earned a PhD in internal medicine with emphasis on cardiology.

In 1992, Dr. Cifkova was appointed Head, Department of Preventive Cardiology, Institute for Clinical Experimental Medicine, Prague, Czech Republic. She also has a part-time appointment with the Charles University Medical School in Prague (Professor of Medicine). She was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Faculty of Medicine, Memorial University, St. John’s, Newfoundland, Canada. Her main research interests are epidemiology of cardiovascular risk factors, primary and secondary prevention of cardiovascular disease, and related clinical trials. Hypertensive disorders in pregnancy are her life-long interest and task within the European Society of Hypertension and within the European Society of Cardiology.

She served as a member of various task forces for the European guidelines for the management of arterial hypertension, cardiovascular prevention and cardiovascular disease in pregnancy. She authored or co-authored more than three hundred papers in journals with impact factor (h-index: 73).

In 1999 – 2005 she was the secretary of the European Society of Hypertension and in 2021 – 2014 she was elected to chair the working group Hypertension and the Heart of the European Society of Cardiology.

For her outstanding contribution to research, education, and leadership in the fields of hypertension and cardiovascular protection, Prof. Cifkova was conferred the Peter Sleight Award by the European Society of Hypertension in 2009. Her research was acknowledged by the Czech Ministry of Health (2010,2015)and by the Senate of the Czech Republic (Silver medal, 2019). The European Society of Hypertension has recently awarded her with Alberto Zanchetti Life Achievement Award (2024).
